Edith Farr Obituary

Edith Virginia (Jones) Farr

April 14, 1933 - December 14, 2025

Edith Virginia (Jones) Farr, 92, of Callisburg, TX passed away December 14, 2025 in Denton, Texas.

Edith was born in Horseshoe Bend on April 14, 1933 to Bill and Camilla (Adams) Jones. The Jones Family, Edith and 4 younger sisters, lived in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Edith's family had a farm and she spent much of her childhood growing produce and cotton. She especially loved driving her father's tractor. In May of 1951, Edith graduated Valedictorian of Thackerville High School.

On September 15, 1951, Edith married the love of her life Granville C. Farr with only her sister and his brother in attendance. The couple settled in Gainesville, TX for a short while until Granville joined the army for the Korean War and Edith followed her love from base to base. When Granville returned from Korea and left the Army in 1953, they settled temporarily in Walnut Bend, TX. They frequently moved with the oilfield, but during that time they welcomed their daughter, Ginger Ann Farr and then son, Granville Vann Farr. The Farr Family ultimately settled in Callisburg, TX where they have remained to this day.

Edith enjoyed working when her children were older. She spoke fondly of her days at Kroger in Gainesville. She enjoyed working the cash register and all of the people she got to meet. After Kroger's closing, Edith joined employment in the oilfield as a bookkeeper for T&W Roustabout. Later she continued working as the "secretary" for her son's company, Tejas Oilfield Service. Edith's role in Tejas far exceeded the title of secretary. She could easily claim the roles of office administrator, head of accounts payable/receivable, lead payroll, head of HR, complaint department, problem solver, employee-locator, lunch-packer, sweets-supplier, babysitter, and ass-chewer for those difficult ones.. With the CB call sign, "White Swan" she ran the show. After Tejas, Edith continued working for Complete Production Service and Select Energy Services.

Aside from work, Edith had many hobbies and interests. She kept a beautiful flower garden as well as a porch full of potted plants. She also enjoyed tending an annual vegetable garden. She also found great joy in cooking, baking, embroidery, cracking multiple pounds of pecans, and attending her weekly hair appointments. Edith also regularly attended Thackerville High School reunions and ARCO reunions as well. She rarely missed an opportunity to support the Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department at their annual auctions. In 2024, she was given the Sylvia McDaniel Award for "Recognition of Outstanding Service" to CVFD. Edith also looked forward to her weekly gatherings for multiple games of 42 with her closest friends.

The most important pastime for Edith was following her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids to all of their many events. Ginger, Vann, and Jeanette, blessed Edith with 4 grandchildren. From the time the grandchildren could pick up a bat or bounce a ball, Granville and Edith were there. They put many miles on a Cadillac following grandkids all across Texas and Oklahoma. They were always there to yell, "Go Wildcats" or cheer on their favorite Special Olympian with the Cooke County VIPs. Edith continued this tradition with her great-grandkids, rarely missing a volleyball game, basketball game, or soccer game.

Edith was a friend to all, a stranger to none, a mother-figure to many, a Momma to a few, and a Nanny or "Up-A-Hill" to the rest. We all loved her "bunches and bunches".

Edith is preceded in death by her mother and father, Bill and Camilla Jones; sister Desey (Don) Bloomer; sister Orenia (Bill) Smith; sister Gwendolyn (Jim) Hart; and her darling husband of more than 50 years, Granville Clark Farr.

She is survived by her children: Ginger Owens, Vann and Jeanette Farr; her grandchildren: Crystal Owens, Blu (Misty) Owens, Keisha Davis Farr, and Tasha (Kameron) Klement; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Billie (Stacy) Russell as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers: Van Farr, Blu Owens, Kameron Klement, Gary Dale Lewis, Paul Pollard and Steven Price.

Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville, TX will host Visitation Thursday, December 18th 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, December 19th at 10 a.m. Internment to follow at New Resthaven Cemetery.
