Edith Lahoma Crow Fickinger, 99, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Katy, Texas.  She was born on February 13, 1924, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and raised there by her parents Franz Crow and Florence Matilda Sweet Crow.  She attended Tulsa Business College in Tulsa, Oklahoma and got her first job in the accounting department of L B Jackson Oil Company.  She later was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation where she met the love of her life, Elwood Eugene Fickinger. Early in their marriage, they moved from town to town until they settled in Midland, Texas where they raised their two children Gary and Lisa.  While in Midland, she volunteered her time and worked on community projects, Midland Symphony, Midland Little Theatre and President of the Midland Geological and Geophysical Auxiliary.  In 1975 she and Elwood moved to Houston, Texas where she found her love for painting and continued her love for sports.  In 1988 they built a home on the golf course at April Sound and retired.  In 2014 they moved to Katy, Texas to live closer to their children. 

 

Edith is survived by her son Gary E. Fickinger (wife Diana) of Katy, Texas and daughter Lisa F. Dick (husband Jim) of Hitchcock, Texas. Her husband, Elwood, and her sister, Ruth Walts, predeceased her.  Edith’s grandchildren are Greg E. Fickinger, Kristina Fickinger Toole, Jamie Dick Brown and Kelly Elizabeth Lindloff. Her great grandchildren are Mason and Scott Fickinger, Max and Paige Toole, Eleanor Brown, and Reese and Emma Lindloff.  

 

Edith loved genealogy, gem mining, traveling the United States and Europe and visiting with friends.  

 

Edith’s family loved her dearly and will miss her loyalty, steadfast support, encouragement, wisdom, strength, determination, love and kindness.  

 

At a later date, the family will gather for a private celebration of her life.  Memorials can be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation in her name, Edith Fickinger.
