SUGAR LAND, Texas - Scott Martin, 79, passed away on Feb. 11, 2026, in Sugar Land, Texas.
Born in Wilmington, Del., Scott attended Tarkio College, Wichita State, and Kansas State (where he met and married Jeanne), then completed a post-Doctorate at UC, Irvine, before beginning a 45-year academic career at the University of Illinois.
Scott was a professor of food science, microbiology, where he spent his time teaching, mentoring, contributing to his field, and cheering on the Illini.
Scott enjoyed tropical fish, gardening, coaching Little League, playing Bridge, golfing and woodworking, but nothing brought greater joy than time spent with grandchildren. After the birth of their first granddaughter, he and Jeanne began spending winters in Sugar Land. In 2023, they made it their permanent home.
Scott is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanne Martin; his son, Reid Martin, daughter-in-law Kristy Martin; his daughter, Laine Cipolla; son-in-law Chris Cipolla; and treasured granddaughters, Chloe and Presley Cipolla and Sydney Martin.
A celebration of life service will be held in Champaign this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a favorite charity or organization that reminds you of Scott.
