Robert Hardesty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning Funeral Home - Evansville on Mar. 17, 2026.
Robert "Bob" Eugene Hardesty, 86, of Webster, New York, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Evansville, Indiana, on February 4, 1940, to the late Bernard and Clara Hardesty. Bob graduated from Central High School in 1958 where he was a member of the Science Club. After high school, Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Evansville. While at UE, Bob met his wife, Barbara Kraft. Bob then obtained his Master of Science in Chemistry from Wichita State University. After college, Bob began working as a chemist for DuPont. He went on to work for DuPont for 31 years, retiring in 1996. Outside of work, Bob enjoyed gardening and horticulture. Bob was always proud of the redwood trees he was able to grow in New York's harsh, unfavorable climate. Bob also collected G-gauge model trains and was extremely passionate about photography. The process of developing film is what originally sparked Bob's interest in chemistry and led him to have a successful career as a chemist. Bob will be deeply missed, but his smile and infectious sense of humor will always be remembered.

Bob is survived by his son, Neal Hardesty (Hiromi) of Fontana, CA; grandson, Ocean Bell of Fontana, CA; and in-laws: Robert Kraft (Janice) of Westfield, IN, Robert Driggs (Phyllis) of Connorsville, IN, Pam Helms (Rev. Bill) of Lawrenceville, IN, Dr. William Kraft (Anita) of Seymour, IN, Robert Kinkle of Evansville, IN, Mary Ann Kraft of Richmond, IN, Karen Alridge (David) of Marion, IL, Cathy Preston (Dr. James) of Sandusky, OH, David Driggs (Debbie) of Evansville, IN, and Richard Kraft (Diane) of Evansville, IN.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Kraft) Hardesty; daughter, Laura Hardesty; parents; and brother-in-law, Kenny Kraft.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 14340 Old State Rd., Evansville, IN 47725 with Rev. Bill Helm officiating. Burial will follow at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.

The family would like to sincerely thank Audrey Liao for her unconditional love, compassion, and care for Bob over the years.
