Edith Guillickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chapel Oaks Funeral Home - Hiawatha on Feb. 3, 2026.
Edith Eileen (Allen) Gullickson of Hiawatha and formerly of Horton died Saturday January 31, 2026 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha where she had been a resident since April 2023.

Edith was born January 20, 1936 in Morrowville, Kansas to Oliver Wendall and Hazel Katie (Hoffman) Grover. She grew up in the Belleville/Morrowville communities before moving to Hiawatha in 1946. She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1954.

Edith worked as a telephone operator, and at the fabric store in Horton before going to work at The Bank of Horton where she worked many years achieving the title of Vice President. Before retiring she also worked at the Brown County Treasurer's Office and Hiawatha Motor Company. Always dedicated to serving employees and customers with respect.

As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Horton, Edith continued that compassionate service by filling many positions and taking great care as the bookkeeper. Probably most important were the lives of the many children she touched as a beloved Sunday School Kindergarten teacher.

Edith was married to James D. (Jimmy Dan) Allen in Horton June 14, 1958. They had 2 daughters Cynthia Eileen and Roxann Ruth. Jimmy Dan died June 12, 2002.

Edith married Maurice Gullickson in Horton on November 19, 2011. He survives. Other survivors include her daughters Cynthia (Randy) Linck of Horton, Roxann (Eric) Cooper of Brisbane, Australia, grandchildren Elizabeth Linck and Chance (Whitney) Linck, and great granddaughter Auri, all of Horton.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jimmy Dan, brother Laurel in 1959 and sister Naomi Hollabaugh in 2022.
Burial was in the Horton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Horton First Baptist Church or the Hiawatha Friends of the Library, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 South Seventh Street, Hiawatha 66434, who is assisting the family.
