Terry Plum Obituary
Michael was born on January 10, 1967, in Olathe, Kansas. He was the oldest of three children born to Terry and Sharon (White) Plum. Michael grew up in the area of DeSoto and Basehor, Kansas, and graduated from DeSoto High School, class of 1985. Michael went on to college at the University of Kansas, where he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in computer science. Michael then married Sharon Jones in 1989. He later obtained his Master's Degree in business at Keller University. Michael and Sharon moved to a farm north of Sabetha in 1991 and opened Rolling Hills Nursery in 1994. They ran Rolling Hills Nursery together for 23 years. Michael excelled in a Career in IT over the years.
Michael could often be found spending time with his family, on his boat, or with his friends at Squatters Pub. He also had a passion for making jewelry. Michael raised two kids, Aaron and Sarah, alongside his wife, Sharon. Mike enjoyed listening to all sorts of music and started learning to play the guitar in what spare time he had.
He is now with his grandparents, and many aunts and uncles in heaven.
He has left behind his wife, Sharon Plum of Ozawkie, KS, his son Aaron Plum, and significant other RayAnn Searles of Holton, KS., his daughter Sarah Rhyne (Kyle) of Burlington, NC. His grandchildren, soon to be arriving in 2026. His parents: Terry (Sharon) Plum of Basehor, KS. His siblings: Travis (Stacy) Plum of Basehor, KS, and Misty (Michael) Alexander of Stillwell, KS. He is also survived by a grandmother and 6 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS, on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m., with the Funeral Service starting at 11:00 a.m. Michael will then be laid to rest at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens Cemetery in Shawnee, KS. Per his wife, Sharon, has requested casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Squatters Pub, in Ozawkie, KS.

When working with Mike at Bachelor Controls I remember he was an upbeat person with an infectious smile (every day). On December 18th we got together to reminisce our past at BCI with many attending and were all so glad Mike was there too. Our condolences to you and your family Sharon... Darrell and Sue Schuette.

I enjoyed working with Mike my last few years at Washburn. Many of us had been at Washburn for a long time and Mike brought in a lot of great ideas and new perspectives from his years working in IT outside of higher education. I had grown up in Sabetha so we also made a connection there. He was a thoughtful and caring person and I was sorry to hear of his passing. I pray God's comfort to the family and friends he leaves behind.

I was so saddened to hear of Mike´s passing.
Mike was a trusted colleague in Information Technology Services at Washburn University, and his calm leadership, integrity, and kindness made a lasting impact on all of us.
