Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNearney - Schmidt Funeral and Cremation from Jan. 16 to Jan. 21, 2026.
Scott Prinz Plum, born on April 28, 1966 (
Minneapolis, MN), was called to his eternal home on January 13, 2026 (
Burnsville, MN). He was poised to celebrate his 60th birthday this April. Family and friends are deeply saddened and shocked by his unexpected passing due to natural causes.
Scott graduated from Cretin High School (St. Paul, MN) in 1984 and attended the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN). Scott lived his life by three pillars: Faith, Connection, and Family. A devout Catholic, he was an active member of every parish he attended, most recently St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage. He often served as a Eucharistic minister and helped organize church events. For decades, he committed his faith to charitable service and fellowship through the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree Knight. Scott was known for always carrying his rosary in his pocket, and he encouraged his nieces and nephews to do the same with random rosary checks.
Scott had a gift to connect with everyone he met. His business relationships formed a chain of friendships stretching from Maine to California. He pursued his passion for connection most impactfully 25 years ago through the creation of the Minnesota Sales Institute, whose mission is to educate sales professionals on the process and behaviors to succeed in their careers. In addition to his professional presence, Scott believed strongly in giving back. He served as president of both the Professional Sales Association and Sales and Marketing Executives of Minnesota, as vice president of the National Speakers Association (Minnesota Chapter), and on the board of the Roseville Area Optimist Club. His words of wisdom will continue to live on in his books The CEO Blueprint (co-written with Dan Prosser, 2016) and Taking Off Into the Wind – Creating Lift Out of Life (2017). Scott "Professor Plum" co-hosted the Winning at Selling podcast with Bill Hellkamp which launched in 2015. With over 700 episodes, the podcast is globally ranked in the top 1% of all podcasts and #19 overall among sales podcasts in the U.S (out of 100 listed).
If you knew Scott, you inevitably met at least one of his many family members. They remember him as a connoisseur of style-whether in his dapper clothing or with a high-end cigar dangling from his grin. His humor reflected a deep knowledge of an eclectic range of topics, and you always had to be ready for a thought-provoking question. He was an avid reader and often kept multiple copies of the same book so he could share something he found inspiring. Scott wasn't afraid to dream big, and he encouraged others to do the same.
On his birthday, Scott enjoyed telling everyone how old he was in hours as a reminder to make every moment count. We believe he would have appreciated us sharing that he was 523,610 hours old when he left us. Yet, in his unwavering faith, we are comforted knowing he has started the clock over again in his eternal resting place.
Scott's memory lives on through his surviving family including his parents Phyllis and David Plum; siblings Kim Bacic (Dave), Todd Plum (Robyn), Jennifer Plum (Darius), Paul Plum, Sarah Janssen (Mike), Jesse Plonka (Bobby), Chris Plum (Angie), Greg Plum, and Steve Plum (Amy) as well as his twenty nieces and nephews.
