Edith Handy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stone Brothers Funeral Home - Fort Pierce on Feb. 19, 2026.
Edith Woodberry was born on March 31,1931 to Peggy Collins and Roland Woodberry, Jr. in Tallahassee, Florida. The family moved to Fort Pierce, Florida where she attended public schools in St. Lucie County.

Being a mother was the highlight of her life, thus, giving birth to her eldest son Elmo Woodberry. Later she met and married the love of her life, Christopher William Handy, and to this union was born Craig, Christopher Jr. (Boot), and Shawn Handy.

Edith began her walk with Christ at an early age. Her enthusiasm for being a good sheep was obvious as she diligently worked in many ministries at First Bethel Baptist Church for over 60 years. She faithfully served as a stewardess, usher, and dedicated worker in Sarah's Kitchen. God was no doubt first in her life, and she let her light shine by the way she cared for others.

Edith was loved by everyone and touched many lives through her loving and giving spirit. She was known as 'The Cake Lady', baking the most scrumptious pound cakes on this side of heaven; this was her way of showing love and providing support and comfort to many who may have been going through difficult times.

Her heart was filled with the most joy when spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a mother figure to many women and children in the community.

Edith passed away peacefully in the presence of her family and the comfort of her home on February 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Collins, father Roland Woodberry, Jr.; husband, Christopher Handy, Sr.; two sons Craig Handy and Christopher Handy Jr.; grandson, Timothy Rosher; and two sisters: Willie Mae Latimer and Pearl Graham.

She will be deeply missed by her loving sons, Shawn Handy (significant other Maggie Rumph), Elmo Woodberry (Mary); daughter-in-law, Cheryl Handy; grandchildren, Chrislyn Martin (Lovelle), Anwar Brooks, Myles Brianvil, Kaytonnia Hughes; great-grandchildren, Lovelle Martin, Jr., Ashton Martin, Kirsten Martin Tamia Brooks; sisters, Annie Lee Woodberry, Bessie Daniels; brothers, Roland Woodberry, Jr., Oscar Woodberry; extended family, The Kicliter, Bryant and Rice families, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. We find comfort in knowing Edith's legacy lives on through the lessons she taught us, the love she shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
