Mrs. Ruth Newkirk McGill was born on June 17, 1940, to Louis Thomas Newkirk and Ruth Duncan Newkirk in Bonifay, FL. Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, and loyal friend. She loved her family deeply and treasured every opportunity to gather with family and friends. Her home was a place of joy, comfort and celebration, where she delighted in cooking and entertaining, always making sure everyone felt welcome and well-fed.

Ruth attended Bayview Elementary and Roulhac High School where she graduated from the class of 1958. She also played clarinet in the high school band. She furthered her education by graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, FL. Ruth dedicated 32 years of her life to serving as an elementary school teacher, shaping young minds with patience, compassion and unwavering commitment. Her legacy lives on in the countless students whose lives she touched.

Ruth was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and FAMU Alumni Association, exemplifying scholarship, sisterhood, and service. She was also a long-time faithful member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, where her strong faith guided her throughout her life.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ruth Newkirk; a devoted husband, James McGill; sisters, Shirley Brown and Louise Seabury; brother, Lieutenant Colonel Louis Newkirk; daughters, Stephanie McGill and Hope Young and grandson, Jordan McGill.

Left to cherish her precious memories are a loving and devoted son ,Carlos (Rosalind) McGill of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter, Shelia Saunders of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Carlos II, Imani, Aaliyah, Blake, Kane and Kolin; great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Cross, Camden and Jelani all of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-laws, Jacquelyn Newkirk of Warner Robbins, GA, Jerolyn Smith of Fort Pierce, FL, Jennie Sharpton of Jacksonville, FL; son-in-law, Kurtis Young, of Atlanta, GA; goddaughters, Ionis Jefferson of Fort Pierce, FL, Rahmia Swoope of Fort Pierce, FL and Kristy Goshay of Atlanta, GA; godson, DeForrest Swoope, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; best friend, Virginia Bradley of Fort Pierce, FL and a host of extended family and dear friends.

Ruth's life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, generosity, and dedication to family and community. Her vibrant spirit, warm smile, and nurturing heart will forever remain in the heart of all who were blessed to know her.
