Edith Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curley Funeral Home - Chicago Ridge on Dec. 30, 2025.
Edith Marie Johnson, 87, of Burbank, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, holding the hands of her beloved daughters, Tammy and Annette. True to her spirit, she made it to one last Christmas, the holiday she cherished most, and spent her final weeks surrounded by her daughters, son-in-laws, brother and sister, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear friends.
Born on Friday, May 13, 1938, to Ivy and John Moore, Edith's mother always said it was the best Friday the 13th anyone could ask for. Edith carried that light throughout her 87 years, touching countless lives with her strength, kindness, and unwavering love.
Edith was a woman of many talents and boundless energy. A hard worker her entire life, she poured her heart into everything she did. Her home in Burbank was graced with a beautiful garden full of flowers and vegetables that she tended with loving care for countless hours. Her skilled hands worked magic at the sewing machine, creating everything from outfits to quilts for family and friends for decades. Her kitchen was the heart of every celebration, where she baked her famous peanut butter and lemon cakes for birthdays and the best icebox cookies anyone ever tasted during the holidays.
Known for her bargain-hunting prowess at garage sales, Edith could spot a treasure from a mile away. But her greatest treasure was always her family. She was the best mother and grandmother, always showing up when she was needed. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived the word of God through her kindness and her strength. She was feisty and tough, standing up fearlessly for herself and those she loved. Family legend will forever remember her as undefeated in arm wrestling – a testament to both her physical strength and her indomitable spirit.
Edith was preceded in death by her husbands, Clem Johnson and Donald Mackin; her parents, Ivy and John Moore; and 10 of her 12 siblings.
She is survived by her three daughters: Lois (John) Caviness, Tammy (Charles) Nodus, and Annette (Mike) Sullivan; her step-children Kathie (Thomas) Gabriel, Donna (James) DeBiase, Michael Mackin, and Daniel (Lisa) Mackin; her siblings Nellie Demonbreun and Larry Moore; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends whose lives she enriched.
A visitation and service of Christian Burial will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 8607 Narragansett Ave., Burbank, Illinois on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Edith's memory by performing an act of kindness in her name, as she did throughout her life. Donations are also appreciated to Shriners Children's in her honor.
Edith Marie Johnson lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Yesterday

Ms. Edith would be a cousin of mine. I don't remember her only hearing of her. I loved me some Uncle John and Aunt Ivy. Praying for all the family for Gods comfort and peace.
