Edith "Liz" Elizabeth (Haddix) Kehrt, 77, of Fairland, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born April 13, 1948, in Northville, Michigan to Walter and Belle (Little) Haddix.
Liz married the love of her life Phil Kehrt in 1974. They would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on October 18th and he survives. Liz and Phil enjoyed many years together competing against each other at drag strips in the Midwest racing their pickup trucks. Liz had a bit of a competitive spirit and didn't cut Phil any slack. She came away with a few wins.
Liz was a member of the Triton Central High School Class of 1966. She worked for many years in administration for Indiana Insurance and then switched careers joining Grifols Biomat Plasma Center in Indianapolis until she retired.
Liz enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she had a big heart for animals, especially her dog, Kizmo, and spoiled him rotten until he died in 2024.
In addition to her husband, Phil, Liz is survived by her step-son, Don Kehrt; grandsons, Ryan Kehrt, of Colorado, Tyler Kehrt of Plainfield, Jordan Kehrt; sister-in-law, Kathy Ambler of Fairland; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Kehrt Adkins of Plainfield. She is also survived by brothers, Walter Raymond Haddix Jr. of Wyoming, Harold Haddix and wife, Barbara, of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Eric Kehrt; and brother, Earnie "Gill" Haddix.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Moral Township Community Center, 8333 N. Frontage Road in Fairland. The Celebration of Liz's life will follow at 1 pm. Inurnment at London Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, Indiana 47201.
