Edith Cornwell Nantz

Edith Elizabeth Cornwell Nantz, 102, resident of Greenwood, widow of Dean L. Nantz went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Wesley Commons Health and Rehabilitation Center of Greenwood.

Born in Murphy NC, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Lillie Humphries Cornwell. A longtime resident of Greenwood, Mrs. Nantz was employed by Oxford Industries and retired from there after many years of service. The last surviving charter member of Laurel Baptist Church, she served the church in numerous capacities throughout the years. She also served the greater Greenwood community by delivering meals-on-wheels into her eighties. She was also an avid gardener and for many years grew and canned her own produce. She was also kept in the company of cats, Pinky and Lucy being her last cats before she transitioned to assisted living.

Mrs. Nantz is survived by her daughter Josette (Blanche) Garrison and her husband Patrick of Ithaca, NY, a nephew, Carl Rogers of Greer, SC, niece Mary Carvajal of Brasstown, NC, and other more distant relations. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Harland, Garland, Ralph, and sisters Bessie and Virdie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 9, from the Chapel of Blyth Funeral home, with the Rev. James Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the service hour on Tuesday the 9th at the funeral home.
