Edith Procko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plainville Funeral Home - Plainville on Apr. 16, 2025.
Edith (Piers) Procko, 98, loving mother and grandmother, lifetime resident of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville. She was the devoted wife and best friend to the late Peter Procko, with whom she shared 75 years of marriage until his passing in 2022. Together, they are reunited in eternal glory.
Edith was born on July 17, 1926 in New Britain, CT, daughter to the late Frederick Piers, who passed away when Edith was the tender age of 2, and the late Helena (Griffin) (Piers) Wilcox. Edith attended Plainville schools and graduated from Plainville High School. Highly athletic, Edith was talented in many sports including field hockey, basketball, tennis and cheerleading, where she was named Captain, and was voted female class athlete, PHS class of 1944.
Edith met her soulmate in the halls of Plainville High School, where their youthful love blossomed despite their two-year age difference. Their journey started as sweethearts, ultimately leading them to build a life filled with love and laughter in their cherished family home on Ledge Road. Together, they raised a daughter, Catherine, who became the light of their lives.
Born with an exceptional work ethic, Edith made her mark as an assembler at General Electric in Plainville. Her talent and dedication to her craft never went unnoticed, and she was often called back to work, a testament to her commitment and skill. However, Edith chose to leave her professional career and embrace her true calling as a mother. She was not just a wife, mother and grandmother; she was a friend and confidante, providing support and guidance through life's many journeys. Affectionately known as "The Rock" in her family, she poured her heart and soul into taking care of her family.
Edith was a shining example of faith and devotion, having been a longtime communicant at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville and a member of the Ladies Guild and Catholic Daughters. Her faith was evident in her constant presence at Mass, where she found solace and strength.
Edith found her greatest joy in time spent with her family, creating lasting memories through countless picnics, Sunday gatherings, and cherished vacations, including many trips to Point Judith and an unforgettable trip to Ireland with her sister and best friend, Catherine. Edith and her sister shared an unbreakable bond, often described as two peas in a pod. Together, they created countless memories and shared countless laughs, embodying the true essence of sisterhood. Their companionship was the foundation of Edith's life, and her love for family radiated throughout her years.
Edith was a beacon of warmth and kindness in our lives, always treating everyone she encountered with unparalleled compassion and sweetness. Her gentle but strong spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Procko) McQueeney and her husband, Gerald; her grandchildren, Jill McQueeney and her wife, Kristin Burghardt and Laura Magisano and her husband, Jason; her great-grandchildren, Jenna Carbone and Riley Magisano; her brother, Charles Wilcox; her goddaughter, whom she considered a second daughter, Sheila Fusco; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Donald Piers, and her sister, Catherine Fusco.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 9 to 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. Donations in memory of Edith can be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church c/o Parish Office, 19 S. Canal St., Plainville, CT 06062. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., extends their gratitude to the Procko family for their trust. Cathy, sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I ran into her at Mulberry Gardens and was surprised she recognized me after all these years. We had a short talk and were hoping to see each again. May she rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of knowing Edie for about 2 years and had the honor of taking care of her. She was such a blessing to my life and I will miss her so much. Always hugged me, told me she loved me, what a great CNA I was, etc. Lots of nights I would sit with her and we would just talk. She helped me so much mentally and I am forever grateful. Love you Edie and thank you for everything, .
