Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - Kettering ChapelEdith Marie Raines, affectionately known as Edie, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026 in Kettering, Ohio. She was born on July 26, 1936, in Somerset, Kentucky, Edith was the cherished daughter of the late Dallas and Martha Carter. She was raised with the values and spirit that would guide her throughout her life, culminating in her graduation from Eubank High School in Kentucky.
Edith dedicated many years to her career at Kettering Health Network, followed by a role at Heartland of Centerville nursing home, where her energetic and helpful nature left a lasting impact on colleagues and those she cared for. Her professional life was marked by a commitment to service and care, a reflection of her fiery and loving personality.
Throughout her life, Edith delighted in baking and cake decorating, talents she used not only as a hobby but also as a profession. She proudly owned and operated her own cake shop for six years, sharing her creativity and passion with her community. Baking was also a way to express her love for her family, often creating wedding cakes and preparing meals that created treasured memories for all. Her fondness for gardening and unwavering support for University of Kentucky basketball further reflected her lively and passionate spirit.
Edith was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Floyd "Bill" Raines, her son, Mitch Raines, and her sister, Violet June Burton. Her memory is lovingly carried forward by her children: Stephanie (Greg) Sparks, Travis Tiller, Mike Raines, Steven (Becky) Raines, and Tammie Bentley. She took great pride in her grandchildren, Caitlyn (Glenn) Bell, Tyler Mayer, Sean (Becky) Raines, Jennifer (Dave) Johnson, Stephani (Jeremy) Ritter, Adam (Jillian) Raines, and Courtney (Brandon) McLaren, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Edith also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will remember her vibrant energy and generous heart.
As we honor Edith, we celebrate a life defined by love, resilience, and heartfelt dedication. Her memory will forever illuminate the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
