Edith was born on January 28, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Lena Booker Reeves and Marshall Reeves. She later relocated to Phoebus, Virginia, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. She was the eldest of nine siblings and carried that role with strength, wisdom, and grace. Edith was a faithful and active member of Canaan Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia for over 50 years, where she served with unwavering dedication. She was lovingly honored as the Mother of the Church, a title that reflected her wisdom, nurturing spirit, and deep commitment to God and her church family.
Known for her very funny personality, Edith brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She was also well known for her delicious fruit and pound cakes, which she lovingly prepared and shared with family, friends, and fellow church members.
