PLYMOUTH - Edith R. Smith 89, of 75 Highland Street passed away on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, surrounded by family.
Edith was born August 5th, 1933.She was the daughter of George T Ray and Florence (Wakefield) Ray.
Edith devoted over forty years of her life to the Pemigewasset National Bank. She started working there while she was still in high school and remained there when the bank became Northway until her well-deserved retirement. She began as a teller and worked her way up to assistant vice president. She was community minded, having served on The Speare Memorial Hospital board, the Pemi Baker Hospice and Home Health board and could often be seen working at the voting polls.She was a past noble grand of the Enterprise Rebekah Lodge #46.
She was also the treasurer for The Royal Eagles Drum and Drill Corps for many years.
Edith loved to have a good time, dance and listen to Blues and Jazz music. She loved to go on cruises and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.She was an eloquent story teller and loved to make people laugh.She was a strong, intelligent and independent woman who will be missed dearly by those who knew her.
Edith is survived by her daughters Darlene Smith,Shirley Smith,Melanie Smith and her son Steven Smith.She also leaves behind a very special granddaughter Crystal Kierstead,a grandson Kevin Goodin, and another granddaughter Selena Smith, nephews Brian Ray, Jason Ray, and niece Kimberly Ray and two great grandchildren Michaela Blais and Dustin Blais.
In addition to her parents,she was predeceased by her husband Harold B Smith and her brother George T Ray Jr.
There will be a graveside ceremony for family at 11:00am June 17th, 2023, at Riverside cemetery followed by a celebration of life gathering at The Birches at the Common Man Inn and Spa in Plymouth NH from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. Those who care to come to the Birches are welcome.
