Edith Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home on Dec. 3, 2025.
Edith F. (DesRoches) Smith age 97, into eternal life on December 1, 2025. Edith was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada and lived in Braintree for many years. Beloved wife of the late Stanley M. Smith. Devoted mother of Brian and wife Linda of Hanover, Coleen and husband Wes Orcutt of Carver, Lynn and husband Steve MacDonald of Hull, Blair and wife Laura Smith of Middleboro, Pamela and husband William Cusick of Rockland and Laura Lee and husband Jeffrey Sirrico of Plymouth. All six children live in the South Shore area and are all married. Edith is survived by her brothers Paul, Melvin, and Arnold DesRoches, and her sisters Estelle DesRoches, Gloria Kane, and Julie Crabbe, and 13 more siblings who have passed away. She has 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild, along with many other family and friends. Edith filled her days graciously using her skills at knitting to make baby clothes for unwed mothers and caps for soldiers to keep them warm in the cold mountains of Afghanistan. Many simple acts of kindness left lasting impressions. Edith's journey on earth was marked with love, compassion, and unwavering faith of God. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Church. She was devoted to the rosary as a source of strength. As a nurse, she took special interest in those she cared for and always gave guidance on how they should care for themselves.

Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral home, 100 Washington St., Weymouth on Tuesday, December 9th at 10am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington St. Weymouth, at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Monday, December 8th from 4-8 pm. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
