Obituary of Edith I. Sutton
Edith I. Sutton, age 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born in Bar Harbor, Maine on April 9, 1938 to the late Edwin and Annie Silverstein Ingalls. She was united in marriage to William Sutton; a blessed union until his passing on June 1, 1988. Edith was a registered nurse and worked as charge nurse at Rome and St. Elizabeth hospitals, Stonehedge Nursing Home, and also worked for the state. She also taught nursing at BOCES.
Edith loved animals and was a lifetime member of the ASPCA. She had many pets and took in puppies from several puppy mills. She loved spending her summers at Brennen Beach with her family. She also enjoyed teaching others and was passionate about nursing. She was a kind soul and willing to help others whenever she could.
Edith is survived by her granddaughters, Tiffany (Patrick) Mahoney, and Tabitha (Michael) Pattison; great grandchildren, Brooke and Shawn; and a close family friend, Ron Cardwell. She was predeceased by her son, Shawn Sutton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice and Amy Costello and her family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Westernville Cemetery on Thursday at 10 AM.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413-9954 and/or the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
