Mrs. Edna Frances Gomes, beloved wife of the late LTC Lloyd Gomes, entered into rest on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at her residence.
Visitation will be followed by a Catholic Mass on Monday, March 31st at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Lanshima officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am. She will be buried beside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Edna was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Louis and Alvira Moniz. She graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy, where she was song leader her senior year. In 1959, she married Lloyd Gomes, whom she happily loved for 48 years. He was an army officer, and his service assignments took her all over the world. They eventually settled in Georgia after his retirement, where she became an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Denise Whitaker (David), Gary Gomes (Pam) and Lynn Rhea, her grandchildren, Brian Whitaker (Carina), Jeffrey Whitaker, Nick Rhea (Megan) and Jordan Gomes (Janelle), and her great grandchildren, Grayson Whitaker, Ellis Whitaker, Finley Whitaker and Jayla Rodriguez. In addition to her husband, Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alvira Moniz, daughter, Darlene Gomes and her sister, Lillian Rodrigues.
