Edna Hagler Obituary

Edna Maurine (ODea) Hagler passed at Life Care Center in Boise, Idaho on March 22nd, 2025. Maurine was born April 20, 1931 to John and Edna (Bennett) ODea in Philip, South Dakota.
Maurine was the oldest of 15 children and was raised on the prairies of South Dakota. She talked of cold, hard winters and hot, dry summers. She helped on the family ranch and helped with her younger siblings. She told everyone about riding horses to the one-room schoolhouse. She would always tell the story about when the horses broke loose and went back to the barn during school, and that left all of the kids to walk home (it was a long walk).
In October 1949, Maurine married Francis Keith Hagler. They started their life working on several ranches around the South Dakota Nebraska area. With this union, they had 6 children.
Around 1956 they loaded up the truck with Janice and their dog in tow to Idaho for work. Maurine and Keith worked together on a farm raising dairy cattle and chickens, her favorite farm animal. If Maurine could have chickens in the care center, she would!
When Janice and Gene got older, Maurine worked from home. She worked several years for Simplots chicken farm in Meridian. Later on, she worked for Harris-Moran Seed Company in Nampa, and she retired working at Carnation potato plant in Nampa.
Maurine was known for her loving and caring ways she always had an ear to listen and arms to hold. Maurine enjoyed family gatherings and getting caught up in hearing about their lives. She loved a good joke and loved to laugh. Maurine enjoyed traveling - trips to see family, going to the Oregon Coast, or a Sunday road trip. She covered many miles over the years. Maurine lived strong and loved hard.
Maurine is survived by her children: Janice (Bob) Snyder, Gene Hagler, and Shawnna (Mike Kelley) Hagler. Alongside them, she had two that called her Mom: Karen Peterson and Teri Turnmire. She was blessed with her grandchildren Chris (Jennifer) Hagler, Alyssa Hagler, and Tyler Harris. Zane and Mandi Dinger also called her Grandma. Her great-grandchildren: Klara, Blake, Kayden, and Jaxon. Her brothers: Jerry and Richard ODea. Her sisters: Phyllis Coleman and Rosella (Tom) OBryan. Her sister-in-laws: Betty Royer, Neva LaFee, Betty Hagler, Fay Hagler, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith. Her daughters Jeanette and Judy. Her son Arlan. Her parents John and Edna. Her brothers Dennis, Jack, Dean, Gene, Jim, and Leo. Her sisters Bonna, Mary, Lorraine, and Lillian. Her daughter-in-law Dena, and of course her beloved extended family nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley for the wonderful care given to Maurine. They would also like to thank the staff at Horizon Hospice and Brynn, her hospice nurse, for their support and care.
