Edna Garner McReavy

Edna Garner McReavy was born April 17, 1929, to Justin Alma Garner and Sylvia Anderson in Fremont Utah. She died November 2, 2021, in Murray Utah from natural causes. Edna was one of sixteen children and is survived by one sister, Janeen Barnett. She married Melvin Souter McReavy on 12 July 1946. They had four children together; Patricia, Pauline, Carl, and Keith, and she was blessed with ten grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.


Edna's family was the most important thing in her life. When her first grandchild was born, she stated she wanted to be called "Granny". Granny always had time for a grandchild and many of them remember her teaching them how to drive or helping them with a project. She was not a typical grandmother and one of her grandchildren said, "most grannies teach you how to bake or knit, but my Granny taught me how to win at blackjack."

Her life was one of service and always centered around her children. She served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Eleven-year-old Boy Scout leader, Ward Camp Director, Stake Camp Director for Girl's Mutual Camp, and a Girl Scout Leader.

Granny was always up for adventure. She reached her goal of visiting all fifty states and also visited many foreign countries while cruising with her children. In her later years she rode in a hot air balloon and glider plane and on her 90th birthday she rode in a red Ferrari. When the driver asked her how fast she wanted to go she told him "As fast as you can make it go" and she always informed people they went 125 miles an hour. Granny loved speed and often went to Wendover, Nevada so she could drive extremely fast on the open road.

She had a deep and abiding love of genealogy. Granny spent countless hours researching genealogy and stories about her ancestors. Once a week she visited the genealogy library in Salt Lake City. Any vacation included looking through phone books for names or visiting cemeteries or libraries to see if any relatives might be there. Granny spent two years creating a family tree that became fifteen feet long and revealed that she had Mayflower and pioneer ancestors.
Through genealogy, Granny gave her family a priceless gift and legacy. They know who they come from and where they inherited their determination and grit.

She also had grit and determination. No matter the trial or challenge, she faced it head-on and overcame it with a positive attitude, determination, and hard work. Granny led a very purposeful life and tried very hard to be kind and loving to everyone she met. If she were to leave one parting thought to her family, it would be the admonition she always gave "use your head!"

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Viewing held prior to services from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
