Edna Oaks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Home - El Reno on Jun. 6, 2023.
Edna Mae Alger Oaks, 87, went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2023, just ¼ mile from where she entered the world.
Edna was born to Arch Alger and Vanna Pearl Garrett Alger in Union City on Aug. 16, 1935. On Oct. 14, 1952, Edna became engaged to Willard Ray Oaks as "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove" by Ferlin Husky serenaded the couple on the radio.
She was a Union City High School senior at the time they became engaged, and she proudly graduated with salutatorian honors in the Fall of 1952. She married Willard on May 14, 1953, at the Church of Christ of Minco in Minco, OK.
Edna and Willard raised their five children in several Oklahoma towns before settling down in her hometown, where she often helped her husband on the farm. As their children became more independent, Edna began working at Western Electric staying there as it transverse to Lucent Technology. She attended college while working her way up from the assembly line to electronics specialist and retired after three decades at Lucent.
While working, Edna was introduced to porcelain making. Her artistic talent began to shine, and she became an avid creator of porcelain dolls. She adored horses, elephants, and M&M characters – but not candy. Edna also loved to travel and had hoped to make a return trip to her favorite destination – Germany. But her family was the true great love her life, and Edna even helped deliver one of her granddaughters in her home.
It is her devotion to family and faith that will be missed most by those who love her.
Edna is survived by 4 of her 5 children Bobbi Lynn Oaks Peters, Lisa Christeen Oaks Deaton, Kevin Scott and Wife Brenda Oaks, and Edward Eric Oaks all of Union City; grandchildren Keith and Wife Jana Peters of Albion IN, Leslie Peters and Husband Philip Voss of Minco, Chris and wife Penny Shore of Granby, Missouri, Joseph and Crystal Shore of El Reno, Mike Deaton of Ashland Ohio, Jeremy Shore and Bobbie Jean Murchison, of Union City, Derek Shore of Union City, Jennifer Deaton and Jason Bates of Ashland Ohio, Erin Shore and husband Johnny Schramm of Piedmont,, Brittany Halbert and husband Jonathan Scheidegger, Rylan Oaks and wife Ashley, of Oklahoma City, Teagan Oaks of Mustang, Donald Morgan, Kevin Oaks Jr. and wife Audrey, of Union City and Christopher Oaks and wife Ashley of Chickasha; 38 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willard; Oldest son Charles Arch Ray Oaks; grandson Coleton Cade Oaks; sister Dorothy Martin; and parents Arch and Vanna.
Come-and-go visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Wilson Funeral Home in El Reno. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, at Edna's final earthly resting place, Pleasant View Cemetery in Union City. The family cemetery.
