Edna Rankine Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Our beloved mother, Edna, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love. Though our hearts ache, we celebrate a life lived with passion, purpose, and unshakable strength.

Born and raised in Catmon, Cebu, Edna carried the spirit of her roots wherever she went. She later made Garden City, Michigan, her home - a place where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful work.

Edna was a force for good in the world. An activist who stood up for what was right, an author who gave voice to her convictions, an educator who opened minds and hearts, and a photographer who captured beauty in everyday life. Her lens didn't just take pictures - it told stories, preserved memories, and reminded us to look deeper.

She is survived by her son, Leto, her daughter, Rosanne and son-in-law, Creek; her daughter, Lauren and son-in-law, John; her cherished grandchildren Dominic and wife, Kristin, Emmanuel, Zephyr, and Nyx; and four precious great-grandchildren – Zeke, Eli, Matty, and Zara who lit up her later years. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, who shared her laughter, stories, and strength throughout life's journey.

Our Mother taught us to fight for what matters, to stay curious, to create beauty, and to hold each other close. Her legacy lives on in the books she wrote, the students she inspired, the movements she supported, and - most of all - in the love and resilience she instilled in her family.

We, her children and grandchildren, will honor her by living fully, loving deeply, and carrying her light forward.

A celebration of Edna's life will be held. We invite friends and family to join us in remembering a remarkable woman whose impact will be felt for generations.

Visitation Tuesday 2 pm - 8 pm with a 6:30 pm Rosary at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. In state Wednesday 9:30 am until the 10 am Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church
