Edward Ames Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Hill Funeral Home on Feb. 10, 2026.
Edward Bacon Ames, Jr., 92, of Colchester, CT and formerly of Amston, CT, husband of Connie (Brown) Ames, quietly passed away on February 8, 2026. Born on September 16, 1933, to parents Edward B. Ames and Dorothy E. (Hughes) Ames, Ed grew up living in Old Wethersfield, CT, and was a decades-long member of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department. Wethersfield always held a treasured place in his heart.

Ed was a very proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 95 in Hebron, CT, and was honored to have been chosen the Grand Marshal of Hebron's Memorial Day Parade in 2017. Professionally, he worked as a draftsman and sheet metal worker and was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 40.

In his younger years, Ed enjoyed spending summers at Clinton Beach with his parents, family and children and taking family vacations on the shores of Cape Cod. He also adored spending time at Hammonasset Beach State Park with Connie. Although those were among his most loved places, Ed was always happiest in the sun and sand of any beach.

Ed was a life-long Red Sox fan, lover of sweet treats and Coca-Cola, and he never met a person from any walk of life with whom he couldn't strike up a conversation. He will be remembered for his youthful spirit and his love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; his daughter, Cindy (Ames) Vollaro and her husband Andy of Leesburg, FL; his son, Edward B. Ames III of Charleston, SC; and his stepdaughter Dawn (McManus) Seifert and her husband Andrew of Colchester. Ed is also survived by several grandchildren: Stacey Fagan and her partner Hector Rodriguez of New Britain, CT; Robert Fagan and his wife Kerri of Portland, CT; Meaghan (Ames) Banti and her husband Daniel of Southington, CT; Delaney Bassett of New London, CT; Reilly Bassett of Norwich, CT; Madison Seifert of Waterford, CT; Andrew Vollaro III and wife Jacqlyne of Manchester, NH; and Sarah (Vollaro) Barbagallo and husband Sebastian of Middletown, CT. Ed was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Gianni, Nicolas and Zacharias Rodriguez; Charlotte and Christopher Fagan; Logan Banti; Wesley Vollaro; and Lucas and Jackson Barbagallo.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Dorothy Ames.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's memory to the American Legion Post 95, 24 Main Street, Hebron, CT 06248.
