EDWARD BING Obituary

BING, Edward Age 87, of Arlington and West Tisbury, MA, died peacefully on August 31, 2024. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Ed and his parents, the late Edward R. Bing and the late Jesse Watson, and his late sister, Virginia LaMarche, moved to Wichita, Kansas, when Ed was 5. From a young age, Ed was drawn to art and architecture. After completing undergrad at his beloved Antioch College, he attended Harvard Graduate School of Design earning his master's in architecture. Ed opened Edward Bing Architects, Inc., which operated in Harvard Square for over 40 years. Around the time he started his business, his dear friend Rosalie Kerr introduced him to Linda Atkinson, who became the great love of his life. Linda passed away in May. They are survived by their two sons, Edward "Atty" Bing (Emily) and James Bing (Allison); and their beloved grandkids, Este, Griffin, and Elliot, who deeply miss their Lindy and Poppy. Ed was known for his thoughtfulness, sharp wit, and his love for his family and many friends. He was a voracious reader and his knowledge bank was extraordinary. Ed was a loving husband to Linda; and a supportive father to Atty and Jim, delighting in their company and their achievements. Ed loved his work and was very proud to be involved in the First Unitarian Universalist Church renovation in Belmont, MA, an important community to him and Linda. Despite Alzheimer's, Ed maintained his kind nature and sense of humor. He continued to dote on his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren with obvious love. In true Ed nature, he continued making friends right up to his passing, and he will be sorely missed by many. Services will be held for a Celebration of Ed's Life on Saturday, October 12, at 10am, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Belmont, 404 Concord Ave. Parking is available in the Claflin St. public lot in Belmont Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Ed's name, www.alz.org

Ed was a kind, talented, intelligent, and witty man. I enjoyed working with him in Cambridge. I will miss him and Linda.

Dear Atty and Jim.
I met your Dad through Bob Yuan, who had gone to Antioch with him. I first got to know him well when we both were in England in 1965, and then starting in 1966 we all lived in Cambridge. Our first apartment was only a few houses away from your Dad's. An elegant architect, a true and honest friend, a subtle humorist, and a truly kind person, Bing (as we called him) will long be remembered by all of his friends and family. Among his many distinctions was his handwriting! I loved it! With our deepest sympathy and warm wishes, Ying-Ying and family.
