Edward E. Blaskey, 85, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center surrounded by his family and friends Edward's body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Michael Standfest will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. For online obituaries & condolences visit: www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com Edward Elmer Blaskey was born on November 20, 1928, in Rippey, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Ruby (Cunningham) Blaskey. He attended country schools. On December 4, 1949, Edward was united in marriage to Ellen Jewell Flockhart in Boone. To this union one son was born: Eugene Blaskey. Following their marriage, Eddie and Ellen lived in Boone and Eddie worked at Wilson Transfer in Ames. Later they moved to Fort Dodge where Eddie worked at Goodrich Tire and also Goodyear Tire. In 1965, they established their home on a farm near Dayton where Eddie farmed while also working at I.B. P. in Fort Dodge. Eddie served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Eddie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. He enjoyed farm life, raising livestock, and enjoyed fishing when he could find the time. Survivors include his son, Gene (Bobbie) Blaskey of Lakefield, Minnesota; grandson, Nick (Amy) Blaskey of Lakefield, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emily, and Michael Blaskey; brother, Harold (Sharon) Blaskey of Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law, JoAnn Seifert of Texas, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck & Shirley Mortensen of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and brother-in-law, Gerald Becker of Spencer, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen Blaskey on January 3, 2013, grandson, Brian Blaskey, and his brother, Don Seifert. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
