Brighton, MI

His Legacy… Edward Alexander Cassar passed away on September 16, 2025. Ed is survived by his 4 children, Daniel (Kathy) Cassar, David (Patricia) Cassar, Debbie (Bob) LeFebvre, Clara Bentley; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 3 nephews; 1 niece; 1 great-great nephew; brother-in-law, William Marrow. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Cassar; and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Marrow) Smith.

Ed was an only child to Michael and Charlotte (Kippe) Cassar. He was born December 7, 1927 and grew up in East Dearborn, MI. In 1947, he met his future wife, Irene and on July 31, 1948, they were married in Detroit. Together, Ed and Irene raised a family of four children in Dearborn, MI. Ed worked for Ford Motor Company as a designer of military equipment after completing his apprenticeship at Ford Trade School. He then partnered with his brother-in-law starting a machine shop, Star Precision, located in West Detroit. The company eventually moved to New Hudson, MI for the next 30 years they machined aircraft and auto parts. He was well versed in operating various machines and very talented with design and engineering.

When the kids had grown and left home, a new home was built in Brighton, MI which is where they resided the last 35 years. Besides work, Ed also had a knack for home projects and enjoyed building things at home. He installed wood plank paneling in several rooms of their home, down the back wall leading from the main floor to the basement, in the bathroom and a built-in bookcase.

When Cornerstone Church moved to it's current location, Ed began attending with Irene. Through Cornerstone, he became a Deacon in 2000. He also joined the Prison Ministry (Forgotten Man's Ministry) through Cornerstone and served between January 1999 through 2020 with his wife by his side. Between 2004 and 2009, he was a Stephen Minister thru Cornerstone Church.

Ed maintained an interest in airplanes, both models, and war birds. His favorite color was royal blue. He loved German chocolate cake and any type of lemon-flavored dessert, his favorite songs were Nearer My God to Thee, The Old Rugged Cross and Victory in Jesus. He enjoyed reading spiritual books and long walks. What he enjoyed most were his conversations he had with his dear friends at Cornerstone.

Ed's family and friends will gather on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00AM (10AM visitation), at Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Brighton, Michigan. Pastor Brian Tweedie will serve as Celebrant. Memorial contributions can be given to Forgotten Men's Ministry. Ed and Irene were good friends for the last 30 years. Met them both at Cornerstone Church and had breakfast after Church with them with most of those years. Ed was a fine gentleman and truly loved his family, church and Jesus Christ. I will miss being able to pick up the phone and just chatting with him. He always had good thoughts about other people and loved the Lord. Ed please say hi to Linda and Irene.
