Edward Curtis (Bill) Coleman, Sr, passed away on February 9, 2023 at his home in Newport, VA after a long illness. He was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on June 5, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ruby Coleman and his brother, Luther Coleman Jr. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nelva (Midge) Coleman; one daughter, Vera Caldwell; a son, Edward "Curtis" Coleman JR; two grandchildren, Kasey Caldwell, and Tyler Coleman; one sister, Ruby Thomasson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Iris Cruise; brothers-in-law, Walter Cruise and his wife, Lee, James Cruise, Benny Joe Cruise and his wife, Kim; two nieces, Mary Coleman and Jenny McGuire, and three nephews, Tanner Cruise, Dakota Cruise, and John Cruise.
He retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 32 years of service. He was also a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was married in 1966 and drafted into the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. Due to Agent Orange contracted pulmonary fibrosis. Hospice took over his care in August 2020. He had nothing but praise for them. They took excellent care of him. He was a skilled craftsman and a master in electrical and HVAC. He owned Net Electric and was a class A contractor. He also was CEO of NET trucking. When able in life, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, studying the Bible, woodworking and gardening.
He was a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church and served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher. He loved studying the Bible and enjoyed discussing the scriptures with anyone who was interested. The last couple of years it has been his Pastor, Stuart Davis.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Sherry Memorial Christian Church with Pastor Gary McCoy officiating. Funeral Services will conclude in the Lucas Family Cemetery in Newport, VA with full military honors given for his service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Sherry Memorial Christian Church.
I have been blessed with enough time to write my own obituary. Having said this, I want the world to know that my in-laws are the greatest anyone could wish for. Randy Lucas deserves special thanks for help during my illness.
