Edward Dahl Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Feb. 2, 2018.
Edward John Dahl, age 67, died on February 2, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Wisconsin to Herman and Agnes Dahl. He grew up in Wisconsin. His freshman year he attended the seminary and was going to be a Catholic Priest. After his first year, he changed his mind and attended high school where he played football, basketball and track. Once he graduated, he joined the Navy to "see the world" and trained to be a medic. He traveled to Greece and was stationed in Myrtle Beach and New York City. He soon returned home to help care for and support his family. He was a factory foreman at Foster-Forbes where he met his wife, Cindy. After getting married on April 14, 1973, he decided to attend college, accounting was the first degree choice when he opened the college catalog. He originally attended college because the GI bill paid him to go to school and he really needed the extra money to support his young family. His professor told him he was the smartest one in the class and the only one who would become a CPA. That made him start to think more seriously about accounting. After earning his associates degree, he worked for a CPA firm in Wisconsin. Ed and Cindy took a road trip in 1977. They first went to Denver and decided to move but before they returned home, they stopped in San Antonio, Texas. Ed fell in love with the weather, he returned to Wisconsin and moved his family to Texas. He worked for an accounting firm and continued to study for the CPA exam. While working he met a client, Rugeley Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson became his very best friend. After earning his CPA, he decided to start his own practice. During this time he played and coached Volleyball. He coached volleyball for STVA, Saint Mary's Hall boys and SAVBA. Coach Ed loved to coach volleyball and teach young players about the game. His love for the game passed on to his children, grandchildren and players he coached. When he was not working or coaching he enjoyed being at the ranch and spending time with his family and friends. He would spend many weekends running from gym to gym to watch all his grandchildren play sports. Ed was a loving husband, father, coach and friend. He would do anything he could to help someone in need. He loved to give his true friends a hard time and enjoyed watching their reaction. He always did it out of fun and love. His family and friends will remember him for his work ethic, love for volleyball, coaching, dry sense of humor and quick wit. Ed is survived by his wife, Cindy and his daughters Laurie Montgomery and Vicki Hamlin and only son Edward Dahl, Jr., nine grandchildren, Ashton, Mason, Madison, Triston, Alexis, Kylie, Tenley, Addison and Edward, III along with his four sisters, Mary, Anne, Theresa, and Carol and two brothers, Joe and Pat and numerous nieces and nephews living in Wisconsin, Kentucky and Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman, mother, Agnes, and brother, Herman, Jr. A Memorial Rosary will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North. The Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, TX.

As a teacher at Union Grove High School, Wisconsin, I came to know Ed and his siblings. It is very heartwarming to read what a versatile life he enjoyed, about the family and friends who loved him, and the volleyball fun he had. I offer my sincere sympathy and prayers at his passing. May God bless him.

Dear Cindy, Laurie, Eddie and Vicki,
We were so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was always a man who could show a tough exterior while he had a heart of gold. I'd known Ed since he moved to SA and gradually gotten to know each of the family as they grew and matured.
Susan and my prayers are that the sadness of this time will be replaced with many memories of all the good times and good things he brought into your lives and all of those he touched.

I am one of Coach Ed's players for STVA volleyball and have loved him as a coach from day one. He would always grin as he nailed volleyballs at us then watched our reaction and would laugh at our responses, as we laughed with him. I will remember Coach Ed as one of my greatest, most loyal, most humorous, and most influential coaches ever. He taught me so much about volleyball and made me love the sport more than anything. He is forever with us and will always have a special place in my heart. Blaise House

So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. We have great memories of neighborhood get-togethers from the Sunday cul-de-sac volleyball games to pool parties. Like us, Ed and Cindy were a young family, just starting out, and though our paths took us elsewhere over the years we still thing fondly of those times.
God Bless you all,
Lyn & Gary Blum

Laurie,

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father. Losing a father can be extremely difficult because you are losing a source of strength, stability and consistency in your life. May your memories of your Dad sustain and strengthen you as you navigate the difficult days ahead and may your heart soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I'm praying that God grants you strength at this time, and that He give you comfort. I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless and keep you and give you peace.

Hugs and love,
