Edward Dickus Obituary

Edward Dickus
Edward Joseph Dickus, a longtime resident of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Jane Blair Dickus for 53 wonderful years. He leaves behind his son Stephen (Linda) Delray of Cornwall, NY, his daughter Lynn Dickus of Meriden, CT, a niece, and several cousins.
Born in New Haven on May 22, 1931, to the (late) Anthony J. and Josephine Kronkaitis Dickus, he was a proud Korean War veteran, a graduate of University of Connecticut and Hillhouse High School. He earned degrees in both mathematics and counseling. He cherished his memories with students and staff at Fair Haven Middle School, where he taught math for 30 years.
He was the President & CEO of Maintenance Service of New Haven, Inc. a company he started on his own, which lasted several years.
A sports enthusiast, Ed was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals and UCONN Men's and Women's basketball. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing in various choirs, dancing, and playing chess. He was a longtime member of St. Casimir's Knights of Lithuania, Chapter 50, New Haven Federation of Teachers Retiree chapter. His handsome looks and friendly personality brought joy to many, even through his final days at Curtis Home in Meriden. He took a genuine interest in those around him and will be sorely missed.
Arrangements - A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery in Hamden. Friends may greet his family from 10:00 A.M. until the start of the service. Though I didn't know him well. I knew his Daughter Lynn both she and I had a Church singles group that we headed up on Sunday nights after Services every week. I met her father and mother they attended Services once in awhile. Very pleasant and nice. Indeed with much condolences to the family of the loss of a very well-known man.

Please let me express sincere regrets on your father´s passing.
We were cousins and grew up together in New Haven. Your father was older and helped me through elementary school not only because of my age, bus also because we arrived from Germany and I spoke very little English. We lived couple of years with the Dickus family and attended the same school. Ed was a great help and a great cousin. In winters we worked together shoveling snow to earn few dollars. After leaving New Haven to serve the military ai had little opportunity to see him, but I always remembered him as a very close relative and a good friend. I called him while he was in the nursing home, but had little success to talk to him. My wife Ruta express her condolences as well. She lived In New Haven while I was in the service, and got to know your and mother farther well. It is their kindness we remember most.
With condolences we express regrets
Sincerely.
