Edward Joseph Ditzel, Sr., 98, of Westminster passed away on April 17, 2025 at BridgingLife Dove House.
Born February 7, 1927 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Christian Atlas and Mary Lynette (Tarleton) Ditzel. He was the loving husband of Catherine Margaret Ditzel, who predeceased him on June 16, 2023.
Edward was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He graduated from Radio and TV Trade School. He was employed at Westinghouse for 33 years and then went to work for the Maryland Department of Transit on the Light Rail, until his retirement. Edward was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Harrisburg, where both he and his wife dedicated themselves in various capacities. He was very active and loved to duck pin bowl and golf.
Surviving him are children and their spouses Edward, Jr. and Gayle Ditzel, Donna and John Landis, Bernadette and Stephen Coccagna, Mary and Mark Darrell; grandchildren Matthew, Michaelene, Meghan, Stephanie, Sarah, Christopher, Natalie, Dominic, Krista, and Emily; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 5 to 7pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster MD 21157. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 11am at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr., Hanover PA 17331.
Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Edward's name to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 110 State St., Harrisburg PA 17101.
