Edward E. "Dean" Ecker, age 84, formerly of Ashley, passed away Monday morning, September 22, 2025, at the Inn at Olentangy Trail in Delaware following a recent decline in health.
He was born on September 8, 1941, in Delaware, Ohio, to the late Frederick W. and Frances (Jones) Ecker. Dean graduated from Elm Valley High School in 1959.
Jennie E. Snyder became his wife on June 3, 1964, in Delaware, and together they shared 61 wonderful years. They took pride in raising their family and watching their kids begin their own successful lives, and their two grandsons mature into fine young men.
Dean proudly served his Country as a US Marine, serving 10 years, deployed to Vietnam for three tours. A tireless worker, he retired from PPG Industries as a lab chemist. He continued to work with the Delaware Data Bus/Delaware County Transit for another 10 years as a driver, dispatcher, and maintenance worker.
At one time, he was an active Mason and American Ligonier. He took pleasure in building and racing dirt track stock cars throughout Ohio. As well as raising several dogs from Boston Terriers to strays and adoptees. And of course, riding his Harley Davidson.
He was a father to many more than his own; he co-fostered nieces, nephews, and kids from the neighborhood. Dean will be remembered for always making time to teach trade skills and life lessons.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Jennie of Powell, daughter, Katie (Dave) Tuckerman of Ashley, son, Chris (Maddy) Ecker of Virginia, grandsons, Gregg and Matthew Tuckerman and brother, Stan Ecker.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, David and Fred Ecker and Ron Bailey, as well as his sister Kathy Deane.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015, where memorial services will follow and military honors to be accorded.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at Tranquility Hospice for the care and support they provided to Dean and the rest of the family.
