Edward Alexander Fancher, Jr. passed away Sunday September 19, 2021.

Ed was born in Wellington, Texas to Ed and Bessielee (Wright) Fancher on December 22, 1926.

He grew up in Geary, Oklahoma, played football and the trumpet in the band, and was an Eagle Scout. Drafted out of high school into the Navy, Ed spent a little over a year before WWII ended. While he didn't see any action, he did make it to Alaska thus qualifying him as a VFW.

Ed went to OU where he obtained a business degree and was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He went into the insurance business, moving to Amarillo and going to work for Ordway-Saunders in 1954.

Ed was a partner for almost 45 years and actively involved in the establishment of an offshoot of theirs, Corporate Systems.

He was active in his church and community, spearheading fundraising for the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Research Center, and on the boards of many organizations, the Boy Scouts, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch as well as the Insurance Agents, American National Bank, Amarillo Board of Realtors, the Chamber of Commerce, Homebuilders, Cerebral Palsy Center, and a member of the Masons/Khiva Shrine and Polk Street United Methodist Church.

Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, and his children, Edward Fancher III and wife Katherine and Ann Clary Old; grandchildren, Taylor Fittz, Edward Fancher IV, Helen Elizabeth Old and Jim Old; his brother, Robert Fancher and wife, Karin; nephews Mark Fancher and wife Rhonda, John Fancher and wife Diana; and grandnieces, Haley, Allison and Kate Fancher.

Ed is predeceased by his daughter, Lisa.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Polk Street United Methodist Church or Boys Ranch.

Shirley, Edward and Ann Clary, my prayers and love are sent to you all. Ed was like a second father to me while growing up in Amarillo. Tom Williams just called me after receiving the news about Ed. We spent the entire conversation trading our favorite memories about Ed and the wonderful Fancher clan! We both know that we are better people today, by having Ed and Shirley's influence growing up. Ed was like a second father to both of us, and we will always cherish those special memories!
