Edward J. Flannery - Edward "Eddie" Flannery passed away peacefully 6/26/25 at 11:11am surrounded by his family after a long battle with esophageal cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Linda (Mahon) Flannery. He also leaves behind his daughters Julie Flannery
Ready and Jane O'Hara (Jeff). He was the Amazing Papa of Tyler, Kyle and Rylie Ready, Jessica and Jaclyn O'Hara. All of Pembroke.
His love for his family was unconditional and will be carried on forever.
He was survived by his brother James Flannery of Myrtle Beach S.C. He was predeceased by his parents Mary (Hamilton) and Joseph Flannery and two brothers Robert Flannery and Paul Flannery.
Eddie was born and raised in South Boston. After high school he joined the Marine Corps. Semper FI. At the age of 19 he was part of the first Boston Police Cadet program and was assigned to Station 6 on D St in South Boston. The Command staff loved him and that's where he began his police career. In 1972 he moved to Pembroke to live with Linda and her family. He at that time joined the Pembroke Police Department as a patrolman. Eddie was a patrolman for over 40 years and received numerous commendations for life saving. He was known for his compassion and fairness. Most people he met became instant friends with him. He loved being a police officer. In his later years of being an officer he was the school resource officer where he was loved by the school staff, bus drivers and the kids. He was affectionately known as Officer Papa at CNK Preschool where his grandchildren attended. He often would go to the end of school functions and play with the kids. Eddie also led the Memorial Day parade in Pembroke every year until his retirement in 2012.
Eddie loved the summer and sailing his sunfish on Little Sandy Pond in Pembroke where he and Linda settled. He loved traveling to Myrtle Beach to their condo and sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves. The family summer vacation to Falmouth was one he always looked forward to because his family was all around him, mainly his grandkids he cherished so much. Eddie did not miss a hockey game, soccer game, basketball or baseball game. He spent more time in Hobomock Ice Arena than anyone else and followed the kids to wherever they may be playing, Even if that meant he was driving a few hours. He loved a hot summer night in his Iroc-Z Camaro with the T-Tops out and going to car shows.
Eddie's love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A wake will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home 551 Washington St Hanover, MA 02339 on Monday, July 7th from 4pm-8pm.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8th at 9:00am Our Lady of the Angels Parish (St. Mary's) 392 Hanover St, Hanover MA

Remembering the times we went to Haymarket Square and got so much fruit we could feed an army. Such fun times!! Swimming at little Sandy and always enjoying his company whenever we were together. Time moved on and we had not seen each other in many years although I would occasionally see Ed on the road when he was doing a detail. So very sorry for the loss of such a gentleman. My condolences to Linda and the rest of the family. John Crosby

It has been many years since I have seen Ed or knew about Joe's passing. We were all in the same running club, the Greater Brockton Striders. Both Ed and Joe were good guys; always lots of fun when they were involved.
It looks like he had a very strong family life and that was his love.
For his entire family, you have my sincere condolences.
Peace be with you.
