Edward Richard Gonyea, of Prudenville died on Sunday November 24, 2024 at home. He was 83.
Ed was born on July 14, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Earl and Clistie (Richards) Gonyea. He lived in Monroe and Wayne Counties until 2000 when he retired from the Ford Motor Company Dearborn Engine Plant, and moved to Prudenville. Ed was a proud member of UAW Local #600. He enjoyed trapping, metal detecting, fishing, books on tape, and walking. Ed was an avid Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lion's fan, along with being an avid lover of his wife Mary's food.
Ed was married to Joyce Wilson in 1964 and was blessed with four children; Tammy Brewer, Michele(David) Bryant, Tracie(Todd) Breuer, and Jeffrey(Erica Rivit) Gonyea. He married Mary Bowler in 1986 and was blessed with three step-children; Mauren(Dennis) Brendel, Edward Bowler Jr., and Jennifer(James Katona) Bowler. Ed is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, his wife of the past 38 years, Mary E. Gonyea, his sister, Barbara(Henry) Breitenback, and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Gonyea, Thomas Gonyea, and Eugene Gonyea; sister, Jacqueline Segur, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Gonyea.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Edward Richard Gonyea will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday November 30, 2024 at the Houghton Lake Eagles, 101 Crestview Drive, Houghton Lake. Memorial contributions in memory of Edward are asked to be directed to the ARK(Association to Rescue Kritters). Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
