WOONSOCKET - With sad hearts, we announce our Eddie Edgar J. Gonyea, Jr., 74 of Woonsocket, suddenly passed after a brief illness at Landmark Medical Center on February 3, 2026. He was the oldest of seven siblings born to the late Edgar J. Gonyea, Sr. and the late Blanche (Robillard) Gonyea.

Eddie loved his family and friends. He enjoyed taking long walks, shopping, and buying his favorite sub and ice cream. As a child, Eddie enjoyed sledding, ice skating, building snowmen, bike rides, hiking, swimming, fishing and building forts. He enjoyed playing cards and games, and as he grew, he enjoyed playing piano and listening to music. Eddie was taught to work on cars and welding by his Dad in the Gonyea Junk Yard, where he also learned to drive. He would give his cousins and siblings rides, which brought him joy.

He was a graduate of Burrillville High School, and proudly served his country in the US Army from 1971-1977. After his honorable discharge from the military, Eddie began work at Electric Boat in Groton, CT, alongside his Dad and late brother, Thomas Gonyea, where he built submarines until his retirement.

He leaves three sisters, Marie Blicker of North Smithfield, Connie Richards of New York, and Jeanne Gonyea of Pascoag; his brother, Robert Bob Gonyea and his wife, Tressa, of Pascoag; two aunts, Ernestine Gonyea of Pascoag and Flo Robillard of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Gonyea, and sister, Suzanne Potter.

We will miss our gentle giant!

His funeral will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, beginning with visitation at 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at Noon in the Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave., Pascoag. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery, Pascoag Main St., Pascoag.
