Edward Hanson

Edward F. Hanson Jr., age 89, passed away on Monday, March 2,2026 just nine days after the loss of his beloved wife, Charlotte. He was born in Saint Louis, Missouri to Edward and Honey Hanson. A proud son of Saint Louis, he carried his love for his hometown everywhere he went. He rarely missed a chance to talk hockey, especially when it came to cheering on his Saint Louis Blues. He also found great happiness in his time in Florida, where the beach became one of his favorite places to relax & reflect. The snowbird friends he made over the years later in life became so very important to him.

In his younger days in St. Louis, he could often be found on a lake or river fishing for bass. A sweet spot for our entire family is a place at the Huzzah River in Missouri where he spent hours & hours fishing, joking, eating & drinking with numerous friends and family. Above all, he loved his family & friends. He was incredibly funny-the kind of man who could light up a room with laughter in minutes. He never passed up the opportunity to tell a joke, especially one that made people blush and laugh at the same time. His sense of humor was bold, playful and unforgettable. He believed laughter was one of life's greatest gifts, and he shared it generously. His friends meant the world to him, and the memories they created together will be told and retold-probably with a punchline he would approve of. His laughter will echo in the hearts of all who knew him. Like Charlotte, he too, came to love traveling…she had to prod him along at first but once his world opened up, he was hooked. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and then internationally to include Ireland, Germany and more.

He is predeceased by his wife of nearly 69 years, Charlotte Hanson, his son, Eddie Hanson, his parents, Edward and Honey Hanson and his siblings, Charlotte Mae, Georgeann, Bill and Celene.

He is survived by his daughters Stacy Hanson (Annette Manuel) and Cathy Turner, granddaughters, Kealy Sims, Meghan Turner-Patel (Gourav), Olivia Turner, his brother Ben Hanson (MaryAnn) and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial for Ed and Charlotte will be at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Friday, March 20 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to P.A.W.S. (Panhandle Animal Welfare Society) in Fort Walton Beach. A very special thanks to his wonderful hospice caregivers, Jacque, Kathleen and Carter. A very special thanks also to Annette Manuel for always being there for Mom & Pop for the past 30 years.
