Edward James Hegarty

Edward James Hegarty, 59 of Philadelphia passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse. He was born May 7, 1960 to the late Edward John & Dolores Emma (Heron) Hegarty. Ed was born in Philadelphia and spent most of his life in Norwood with family and friends. He graduated from St. James High School and went on to receive his bachelors degree from West Chester University. Ed most recently worked for Pentec Health, which became a part of his extended family. He also enjoyed his time volunteering, especially at the Discovery House. Ed loved taking trips down the shore and relaxing on the beach. He returned to South Philly last year to enjoy the city he loved. Ed was an avid Eagles fan and was proud to see his team win Super Bowl LII. He was privileged to travel to see them play their 2018-2019 playoff run, from Washington to New Orleans. Ed was devoted to his family and the people he cared about most, especially his daughter. Ed was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 and fought with strength and perseverance. He passed away comfortably and peacefully, surrounded by love. He will be dearly missed. Ed is survived by his daughter, Megan Hegarty (David Southern); siblings: Coleen Newman, Deborah Reilly and Francis Hegarty (Tia); seven nieces & nephews and eight great-nieces & nephews; and many other close family and friends. Family and friends are invited to Ed's Memorial Service on Friday June 21st from 4 – 6 PM at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074. A Prayer Service will immediately follow at 6 PM. Interment will be private.
