Edward Shelton Joyner peacefully entered the loving arms of Christ Jesus on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Born the eldest of five children to Otto and Sallie White Stocks, Edward's curiosity and passion for mechanics began in childhood, where he enjoyed tinkering with electronics and motors.
He attended Greensville County Public Schools before enrolling in the U.S. Job Corps, where he earned certification in automotive and machine repair. In 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army and served bravely as a combat soldier in the Vietnam War. He was wounded by an explosive device and received an honorable discharge in 1970.
Following his service, Edward moved to New Jersey and pursued a successful entrepreneurial career. He founded E & J Tooling Company and later expanded into Eagle Heating and Cooling Company. With keen business insight, he also achieved success in real estate.
In 1998, Edward married Sue Woo. Together, they navigated life's challenges and joys, forming a bond admired by many. His kindness, generosity, and devotion to family and friends endeared him to all who knew him.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Sallie. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sue; three sons, Shelton Joyner (Alex, wife; Shirley Joyner, mother-deceased), Emmanuel Stokes (Nicole), and Joseph Woo; and four cherished granddaughters, Michaela Joyner, Lelia Joyner, Alexandria Stokes, and Lydia Stokes. He is also survived by his brothers Jasper Stocks (Teresa) and Elmer Stocks (Cynthia); sisters Avis Stocks Jeter and Rosa Stocks Atkins (Hank); nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Edward's life was one of service, resilience, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service and Viewing on Thursday, February 6th from 8:00 - 10:00 PM at the Healey Funeral Home, 1816 Berlin Road (Route 561), Cherry Hill, NJ. There will be a Funeral Service again on Friday, February 9th beginning at 10:00 AM at the Healey Funeral Home followed by his Committal Service with military honors at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2492 Andover Road (at Route 130), Cinnaminson, NJ.
