Edward G. Leahey, Jr.

February 25, 1935 - August 6, 2024

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Edward G. Leahey passed away on the 6th of August, 2024 in Hilton Head, SC at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Linda; son Todd of Tolland, CT ; daughter Michelle Cox of Columbia, MO and six grandchildren. Ed was born in Far Rockaway, NY and grew up in Hollis, NY. He attended Cortland State Teachers College. Following graduation, he entered the Marine Corps, where he became an officer and served in both California and the Far East. After his release from the military, he became the Director of Physical Education and Athletics for the Suffolk County Community College on Long Island.

Ed was later employed in the ship building industry with E.W. Hazard Assoc. and then became owner of a small resort, the Whiteface Chalet, in Wilmington, NY. He associated himself with the area attractions and businesses and was involved, along with his wife Linda, as officials in both the World Cup and the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.

After selling the chalet, Ed and Linda moved into the resort industry, becoming general managers and business managers for large recreational resorts. He was affiliated with Gurney's Inn in Montauk, NY, the Sheraton in Glens Falls, NY and the Windmill Point Marine Resort in Virginia.

Ed and his family moved to Hilton Head in l987, and he and Linda worked in the real estate field for over twenty-five years. He eventually enjoyed teaching real estate to newcomers to the industry.

Ed will be cremated, and a memorial is planned for him in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the American Cancer Society.
