Edward Leal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vinyard Funeral Home - Floresville on Dec. 23, 2025.
Edward "Yo" Leal, 69, passed away on December 21, 2025. He was one of the 12 children born to Trinidad S. Leal Sr. and Anita Garza Leal in Floresville, Texas on January 5, 1956. Edward was creative, and growing up with so many siblings helped shape the compassionate and imaginative person he became.

Edward found joy in quilting, writing, reading, and exploring his ancestral roots through genealogy. His passion for quilting is demonstrated by the many handsewn quilts he created for family and friends. He was passionate about uncovering family history. Edward's professional journey as a journalist took him to the Northside Recorder Times and the San Antonio Express News, where he was respected for his dedication. Later, he joined the Texas Public Radio Station, embracing their mission to engage, inspire, and inform, working tirelessly to connect people and foster understanding the value of freedom of the press within the community and world.

Edward is reunited in heaven with his parents, brothers Reynaldo Leal, Sr., Adolfo Leal, Ricardo Leal, Joe David Leal Sr., nephews Ismael "Mel" Leal and Richard "Cuco" Leal, brothers-in-law Henry D. Montoya and Alfred Hernandez, sisters-in-law Adela M. Leal and Rosie Leal.

Those left to cherished his memories are: sisters Esther L. Montoya, Dora A. Leal, Mary Alice Hernandez; brothers Abelardo G. Leal (Dora), Trinidad Leal Jr., Robert I. Leal (Debbie), Alfonso Leal (Alicia), sister-in-law Eva Leal, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM, a rosary at 10:30 AM, and a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the mass at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas Public Radio, 321 W. Commerce St., San Antonio, Texas 78205, or online at tpr.org in Edward's honor.

Edward will be remembered for his kindness, creativity, and unwavering commitment to family and community. He was described by his friends and family to be fun, clever, witty and a great storyteller.

His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
