Edward MacDonald Obituary

Edward "Ed" Spencer MacDonald of Marshfield passed away the morning of Sunday, September 21st. He was the son of Mary (Farrell) and Edward Leo MacDonald. Ed was born in Boston on June 24, 1941 and was raised in Randolph, Massachusetts where he attended high school and played football growing up.

After high school Ed served in the US Navy before attending college and later earning a master's degree in education. He enjoyed a long career working in the Marshfield public school system as a teacher and assistant principal serving middle school students across the town. Ed also enjoyed being a business owner over the years with a long run of owning and running MacDonald's Ski Emporium with multiple locations.

Away from work Ed enjoyed skiing and boating as well as many hours invested as a hockey dad, driving the van, making the phone calls, and pounding the glass in cold rinks for both kids and grandkids. In recent years he liked to travel with a steady diet of Marco Island, Florida always included in the rotation. Gardening also caught his attention later in life offering up a steady supply of vegetables to complement an oft fired up grill on the deck.

Ed was a proud father to sons Jeff and the late Kirk, who passed away in 2021, and is survived by wife of 61 years Shirley, daughters-in-law Katie and Charity, and grandchildren Lain, Taylor, Faith, Kylie, and Hope.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 28th from 4:00-7:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover, Mass (551 Washington Street/Rt 53). A funeral service on Monday, September 29th will begin at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Quincy - 201 Granite St. with burial to immediately follow at Couch Cemetery in Marshfield on Union Street.
