Nicola "Ed" Mandes May 12, 1942 – August 18, 2025
Nicola "Ed" Mandes passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the age of 83. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Ed lived a life full of quiet strength, deep passions, and a heart wide open to family, friends, and animals alike.
A proud veteran, Ed served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967. Following his service, he built a lifelong career as a skilled carpenter - a craft he not only excelled in but truly loved. He never lost the passion for working with his hands and creating things that would stand the test of time.
Beyond his work, Ed was a man of many interests. He participated in Civil War reenactments for many years and was an avid antique gun enthusiast. His deep appreciation for history, craftsmanship, and authenticity was evident in everything he did. But above all, Ed had a special place in his heart for animals - from horses to dogs and cats - none more beloved than his best buddy, his dog Camper.
Ed was rich in relationships and deeply loved by many. He is survived by his devoted life partner of 26 years,Caren Corriveau, and his son, Michael Mandes. He was also a cherished stepfather to Connie, Wendy, Raymond, Renae, Jennifer Gerth and Tuny, Jaimee, and Will Flagg. He was the proud grandfather of Breeauna Bonin, Madison, and Riley Gerth.
Ed is also survived by his siblings: Ron Mandes and Jane, Dave Mandes and Nancy, Bob and Paula Mandes, and Sandy Mandes, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Nick Mandes, and is survived by a wide circle of special friends whose lives he touched in countless ways.
To know Ed was to be greeted with his signature, "Hey, how you doin'?" - a simple phrase that said so much about his warm, approachable nature. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of connection. He will be missed dearly by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A celebration of his life will be held in the fall, Date and Time TBD To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Edward, please visit our Tree Store.
