Edward E. Mataitis, 79, of Rochester passed away on December 22, 2024 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Edward Eugene Mataitis was born on November 27, 1945 in Springfield, OH to Justin Mataitis and Annabelle (Lonsway) Mataitis. He attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1968, he moved to Rochester, MN to work for IBM where he did disk drive development and testing until his retirement in 1999.
Ed met his wife Mary due to their mutual love of bridge. For their first date in 1972, Mary let Ed drive her Saab to a Twins game at the Metropolitan Stadium. The game ultimately went to 22 innings. After many more bridge and baseball games, they married on January 2nd, 1973.
Ed loved working in his yard and gardening. He enjoyed many home projects and was always up to the challenge of fixing whatever was broken. He was also happily on call to help his daughters with their cars and houses. He was often found watching a baseball game with wife, watching college basketball, or watching his grandson's activities.
As a founding member of Pax Christi Catholic Church, Ed served the parish by volunteering for many years on the finance committee. He valued the community he had there.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Marika and Maggie (Dave) Kaser, grandson Greg Kaser and brother Gary (Joni) Mataitis.
