Evelyn T. (Weiss) Mataitis, 85, of Allentown, formerly of Springtown, died Friday, February 9, 2007 in Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Charles S. Mataitis, who died Dec. 11, 2000. Born in Bethlehem on December 8, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Theresa (Schumacher) Weiss. Evelyn was a beautician for the former Hesss department store, Allentown, and later established the Evelyn-Marie Beauty Salon, Springtown, from 1968 until retiring in 2001. From 1943-1946, she was a WAAC serving as a dispatcher and a chauffeur for dignitaries from the Pentagon during World War II. She was a member of St. Ursulas Catholic Church, Fountain Hill. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Springtown Volunteer Fire Company. Survivors: Daughter, Patricia M. Hrycko with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Michelle Harrier, wife of Daniel, Stephanie Johnson, wife of Robert, Jeffrey and David Hrycko; four great-granddaughters, Jennifer, Nicole, Julie, Amanda. She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Hart, and brothers, Ferdinand, Arthur and William. Services: Family and friends are invited to call 7-8:30 p.m. today in the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main Street, Hellertown. The service will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the church. The interment will conclude services in Holy Ghost Cemetery, Bethlehem.
