Edward McColgan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home - Union on Jan. 23, 2026.
Ed McColgan was born in Manhattan on July 9th, 1950; his family moved to Newark, NJ, three years later. As a boy he loved playing baseball and basketball on the local playgrounds. For the rest of his life, he enjoyed playing almost any game at any time, even if it was just a backyard game of catch.

In 1977 Ed met Michele Rufolo, a girl from Queens, while both were vacationing in Manasquan, NJ. They were married a year later and lived together in NJ for the next 47 ½ years. They had 2 children, Michael Edward and Teresa Rose. In 1994, the family moved into Ed's parents' home in Maplewood, NJ, after the sudden death of his mother, so that they could care for his disabled father.

Ed was a loving husband, father, and caretaker. He was loved by all who knew him and always made time to help others. He was sharp and funny; he kept his sense of humor, even years after his dementia diagnosis. He had many nicknames and liked to bestow them on others. He was larger than life and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his wife and children. We'd like to think of him playing softball somewhere in an eternal summer, with all of the people he loved.

Goodbye, Eddie Mac – Big Ed – Edju – Atlas Ed – Crazy Eddie – Ed Neri – Crumb – Bug, etc. We will love you always.

Robyn (Dolbin) Chaisson

February 11, 2026

EJ was my Mother's (Kathy Dolbin) cousin (Helen was a sister to my Grandmother Stella). When I was young (by 9 years to EJ), he and Margaret Mary would come with the family up to Shenandoah with the family. I was one well cared for little girl by all the family members. Babchi (EJ's Grandmother and my Great Grandmother) loved having everyone around! I last saw EJ when he came to Annapolis for my mother's funeral (he came with Georgie). What a nice reunion we all had even considering the circumstance. May he be resting easy in the arms of our Lord watching over all his family. He will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincere sympathy and condolences. Much love, Roberta Ann (Robbie-Robyn) Dolbin
