In loving memory of Ed McKenna, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on March 26, 2025, and is already dearly missed by all who knew him.
Ed was born on February 11, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Paul & Marie McKenna. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. Afterwards, he met Pearle Vidmar at a dance, and they married on November 28, 1957. They lived in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia before finally settling in Taylor, Michigan, with a career at Ford Motor Credit Company. There they raised their family of three boys enjoying a multitude of sports. She was the love of his life until her death in June of 2024.
Over the years, they spent many hours in the car going back and forth between Pittsburgh and Taylor, maintaining ties with family and friends, enjoying holidays, graduations, weddings, and special events. He was a devoted father to his three sons, who he instilled a strong work ethic, confidence, travel, and loved being around people. He had an appreciation for wildlife, the curiosity of nature, and love of family. As serious as life can be at times, he often brought humor to the situation. In retirement, he and Pearle moved to Novi for a short spell and then lived for 18 years on a small lake in New Hudson, Michigan. Sundays were spent with their grandchildren boating on the water, and fishing, playing games, and telling stories around a table filled with laughter. His adventurous spirit sent him traveling often, cruising and visiting Machu Picchu, Egypt, Italy, China and attending the 50th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France.
Ed had a curiosity about the world, people, and all aspects of life which encouraged his strong appetite for learning and reading. Everyone who met him enjoyed his witty humor and engaging with others. He possessed a quiet confidence, and his kindness and sense of humor made him a joy to be around. He loved jokes, even at his own expense, which put others at ease.
He is deeply missed by so many. He leaves behind his sons and daughter-in-laws: Ed (Alison), Joseph (Debi), and Lee (Lisa). He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Heather, Matt, Kelsey, Myles, Melanie, and Jillian, and 2 great grandchildren: Kendall and Briar. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul, Marian, Florence, Bob, and Rosemary.
A celebration of his and Pearle's life will take place at a future date. In honor of this amazing man, please take time to enjoy sunsets, and share laughter and love with those around you. Be present, kind, playful and friendly!
