Edward E. McKenzie, 97, residing in Clyde, passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 16, 2025 in his home.
Edward was born on February 20, 1928 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late Ezra McKenzie and Bertha (Davis) Orwig.
Edward was a Veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served his country from 1945 to 1949. He married his late wife Dorothy on May 17, 1947, and will be celebrating what would have been their 78th wedding anniversary in heaven. He retired from New Departure in Sandusky. Edward enjoyed traveling with Dorothy. They lived in Arizona for several years before they moved back to Ohio. He loved laughing and joking with his grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing his music with the whole family. He had a special place in his heart for his little great-great-granddaughter.
Edward is survived by his two daughters, MaryAnn (Norm) Schenck of MI and Lori (James) Vassallo of Tiffin and his son, Steven McKenzie of Sandusky, OH; seven grandchildren, Richard Brightman of CA, James Brightman of MI, Gregory Richter of OH, Steven Brightman of AZ, Kevin Richter of OH, Breigh Soles of ID, Jonathan Brightman of MI; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by wife, Dorothy M. (Didion) McKenzie in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth "Bud" McKenzie and two sisters, Violet Burke and Charlotte Forney.
Friends may call on Wednesday May 21, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel Mausoleum at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 Bogart Road, Huron with Pastor Wally Gilbert presiding.
