Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Silas Creek Chapel - Winston-SalemIt is with deep sadness that the family of Edward Steven “Steve” McLeod announces his unexpected passing on August 24, 2025, at the age of 78. Steve was born on October 28, 1946, in Vernal, Mississippi, to Travis Arnel McLeod and Jewel Williamson McLeod. He spent most of his life in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he was a cherished member of the community.
Steve honorably served the United States Navy in Vietnam followed by a 37-year career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. After retiring, he enjoyed spending more time with his family, traveling, relaxing at his home away from home in Virginia and spoiling his rescue pup, Benji.
Steve was a devoted husband to Loretta Haga McLeod for 56 years and a proud father to Anthony McLeod (Cara Doyle) and Travis Edward McLeod (Claire Bouchard). He was also a doting grandfather to Tanner (Anthony) and Anna Scott (Travis), who adored their papaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sue Simpson. Steve is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters Wanda Whitlock, Beverly Kiger, Kathy Gibbs and brother Bob McLeod, extended family, and many friends who will miss him deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, on Friday, August 29, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, they request that donations be made to The Ardmore Baptist Church Youth Fund, the Forsyth Humane Society, or the American Heart Association.
Steve will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and steadfast love for his family, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
