Edward M. Murray Jr, affectionately known as Mr. Murray, Junior, Uncle Junior, Uncle Donald, and Cousin Donald, transitioned peacefully surrounded by family on Friday November 29, 2024. Edward was born to Clarissa C. (Cumberbatch) Murray and Edward MacDonald Murray, Sr on October 27, 1934 in Boston Ma.
Edward lived a remarkable and full life. From an early age, Edward demonstrated a strong work ethic. At just the young age of 12 years old, he began working at Hub Trucking from 1946 to 1948. He also delivered 600 newspapers weekly to his community from 1948 to 1955, delivering the Boston Globe, Boston Post, Herald Traveler, and The Record American Newspapers. Edward simultaneously began work at George Star Gas Service Station assisting with tire repair and mechanic work. In 1952 Edward attended Boston Trade School with a focus in Mechanics. While continuing to work at George Star Gas Service he was afforded the great opportunity to take over the station in 1978 and began Ed Murray Getty Gas Service. He successfully ran his gas and mechanic business until 2008 when he retired and sold the station.
In 1952, Edward joined the Army Reserves as a part of the Headquarters Company #101. His final ranking within the US Reserves was Specialty Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1968.
In 1967, Edward married his beloved wife Juanita (Hunter) Murray and became a family with her young sons. They resided in Boston until her passing.
Edward joined Prince Hall Mason Grand Lodge in 1967 and worked his way to the last degree of Commander of Rite 33rd Degree in 2021. He participated in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge for 57 years where he held various chair positions, participating in the Color Guard, and volunteering as the treasurer for 38 years, as well as holding the position of past master in 1972.
As a devoted Christian, Edward enjoyed serving his church community where he was the longest living member at the time of his death of St. Cyprians Church where he was baptized and confirmed. While being a lifelong member of St. Cyprians, he served as the assistant treasurer for 7 years and was a member of the Young Men's Fellowship.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edward M. Murray, Sr and Clarissa (Cumberbatch) Murray and siblings, Athelstan "Sonny" Cumberbatch, Muriel Sobers, and Shirley (Murray) Griffin. As well his loving wife Juanita (Hunter) Murray. He leaves behind cousins, nieces, nephews, a son, grandchildren, friends, and Masonic brothers.
